The Hone Group

We are an interdisciplinary research group focused on novel materials and nano-devices. We study fundamental properties of two-dimensional materials such as graphene, boron nitride, and transition metal dichalcogenides, and explore their applications in electronics, optoelectronics, sensing, and nano-mechanics.  We synthesize these materials with the goal of achieving the highest-quality crystals and films available. We pioneered the assembly of these materials into layered Van der Waals heterostructures and continue to develop new ways to create and manipulate these structures to achieve new properties.  In addition, we use nano-fabrication to create devices and structures for fundamental biological studies.

The group is highly collaborative and works with research groups in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering.

We thank the Moore Foundation, Honda Motor Company, Hyundai, NSF, DOE, NIH, NASA, and the Army Research Office for funding our research.
